Green Acres

Well, I finally arrived at the farm and have been taking everything in. I was in Allentown, PA before I left and went to the farmer’s market there. I was horrified to see Driscoll strawberries, Bell & Evans chicken & Amish folk using electricity. There are plenty of farmers in the area, so I just don’t see why there weren’t more local fruits and livestock. Sickening I tell you!!

Jerks
So, my first day here I walked around the grounds and a chicken pecked my leg (I’m hoping someday she’ll be dinner), I saw the horses, cows, pigs with their adorable piglets (which I also hope to be dinner one day). I even helped with the milking process!! (Unfortunately, that included the clean up and while I was helping move a fussy Holstein, she pooped right on me).

Today I worked in the garden — harvesting, seeding, transplanting & even driving the pick-up truck around. I’m exhausted, but so happy to be here. I’m already learning so much. I will update as often as I can — right now I’m just trying to get into a groove and not get my leg cut off in a combine accident.
